Moving From Mac to Linux

Here I collect thoughts on moving from macOS to Linux.

In each of the linked pages I try to explain what I like about the Mac app, and how things compare with my selected Linux application.

## Setting Expectations

macOS and Linux have very different standards for applications. macOS has the benefit of a tightly integrated environment, and a tradition of high quality human-computer interaction design that goes back to the 80s. Linux has a variety of standards for desktop applications that don't always play well with each other. You have to be ready to make compromises.

It's not correct to say Linux applications are *worse*, but some things you might expect will not be true in Linux. This can be good or bad, depending on your needs.

The biggest point in favor of Linux, is that free and open source software doesn't have the same incentives that lead to enshittification.
