Mac to Linux: E-mail

## On Mac

I use MailMate and SpamSieve on macOS.

MailMate sets a high bar for an e-mail client. It has a UI that feels native and allows for a lot of customization.

Its concept of mailboxes is helpful to organize email beyond a traditional "Unified Inbox". Being able to break them down into sub-boxes is great.

I use gmail style shortcuts.

## On Linux

What I like: Unified Inbox has color-coding per account, which makes it easier to glance. Configuration is easy, and extensions allow for a lot of customization.

What I don't like: The UI is cluttered and doesn't look great. I'd rather have an app dedicated to e-mail or at least have an option to disable chat, calendars and contacts.

Extension I use:

- tbkeys-lite to configure the keyboard shortcuts.

## Other Things I Tried

**aerc** I actually use on both macOS and Linux. Especially if dealing with patches. I find it easier to use in niri than on macOS because of how task switching works. Rendering HTML e-mail is my current deal-breaker.

**Evolution** has more the type of UI I like in a mail app, and integrates to the "Online Accounts" preferences, but I found the lack of a unified inbox and customization options too limiting. Like Betterbird, I don't care about the e-mail or rss features.

**Claws** also a UI I like, but no unified inbox or good customization for shortcuts.

**KMail** Account setup was painful, and unified inbox didn't behave as I expected.

**Geary** I don't like the UI, very limited options.
