Coaching

Coaching is a series of practices in which one person (*the coach*) helps another (*the coachee*) achieve a goal by themselves. It's in contrast to Mentoring in that the coach does not wield a direct influence in the learning process. Both play an important role in Rhizomatic Learning

A coach can be more experienced, but not necessarily. Often, the coach is not an expert in the goal the coachee is trying to achieve. Peer Coaching can be a very effective tool in collaborative teams.

Because coaching requires the coachee to find the answer themselves, it's more appropriate in situations where the coachee has enough context to analyze the problem and explore potential solutions.

Coaches can use tools such as mirroring, explorative questions, role playing, and frameworks like the FUEL Model to help the coachee find the answer.

It's important to clarify what the person is looking for. Acting as a coach when someone needs mentor might make them feel like they've been left alone and unsupported and will not help them achieve their goal.
